This depicts the time when Jesus was twelve, and his parents missed him on their way back home from Jerusalem for the Passover, and they went back and found him teaching in the temple (Lk. 2). What’s interesting about this one is the spiral platform he is standing on, perhaps meaning to suggest the Tower of Babel (ziggurat) story in the Old Testament: the people were building a tower to reach up to heaven, and God confused their languages so they couldn’t communicate with each other (Gen. 11). I love the way he’s perched up there, cheeky-looking.
