I love the rose and blue colors of the first, The Virgin and Child Enthroned, Lorenzo Monaco (Pier di Giovanni), and the way Christ is standing and grabbing his mother’s scarf, and the flowing lines and glowing golds, and then the second, The Virgin and Child with Angels, Ferrarese School, with sharp black verticality of angel wings, and their red shoes, and the somewhat emaciated, elongated Christ figure — on the whole, prefer the first version of the relationship, much cosier, or homely, as the Scots would say.
