The first is a detail of the whole painting, focused just on John the Baptist and Jesus. Love the lamb!
The second is by Raphael, or perhaps his student, and is called The Holy Family Meeting the Infant St. John the Baptist (The Madonna del Passeggio). They are meeting on the family’s way back from Egypt, and the way they are juxtaposed to each other is touching and lifelike, don’t you think? The two are so similar in composition, must have been a motif, their closeness as babies. Notice John’s distinctive clothing, even as baby, and Mary’s hand on his head in second, and Joseph in background.
