This is the oldest surviving gravestone on Iona, probably within a generation of Columba’s death in 597. Although one of Columba’s original group of twelve men was named Echodi, thisis most probably the gravestone of Echodi Buide, ruler of the kingdom of Dal Raita, who died in 629.
