After the service there was another half-hour of Taize music and readings and some silence as well. A young Canadian man led the service, sang and played guitar, accompanied by a violinist. Tried to take their photo afterwards, but the church was too dark. Had to practically feel my way home, hadn’t expected to be out past dark. I’ve stayed long enough now in Scotland to notice the days getting shorter. It is dark by around nine-thirty rather than what seemed like eleven -thirty at summer solstice. Both services, well three if I count the morning one, made for a very special last day at the abbey.
Preparing ourselves for stillness.
