David and Jo Currie at Highland Cottage

I stayed in Tobermory last night, as I couldn’t get a room on Iona. The Curries were lovely; their place is up the hill, and he ran my bags down to meet the bus to Craignure, so I could do some last-minute browsing unencumbered. You may remember seeing the cottage earlier on blog, as Mickey and I had eaten there last Thursday. David showed me a photo of himself peeling potatoes at the back of St. Columba’s on Iona when he was eight – the beginning of his cooking career. His grandmother had cooked at St. Columba’s in the 1950s. As mentioned before, their B&B is named after her cottage on Iona, just down the street from the Argyll Hotel.
