He used to live on Ulva island, now his son is there. Ferry tickets £3 each way, pay at the Boathouse on other side. Ulva had a large population until the 1840s, with decline in kelp industry, potato blight, and then the Clearances, in which tenants were cleared off owner’s land to make way for sheep, which were more profitable. A bit like the Trail of Tears for the Native American population in our country. The island currently has eight inhabitants.
